trans issues affect technically-cisgender gender non conforming ppl too. fem gays, butches, drag performers. the term cisgender as an opposite to transgender is useful in discussion. but really shouldn’t be a treated as the new binary. what happened to “gender is a spectrum”

A screenshot of the heading of an article on Medium.com, written by user "The Grief Witch". The title of the article is "What is the Ethical Way to Climb Out of Hell?". The article is accompanied by a worms-eye-view photo of several people waving Palestinian flags.ALT

I just wanted to share this article about Palestine’s right to revolt and why it is important that we support it. It also has sources embedded in the text that debunk misinformation about them and Hamas. I implore everyone to read it and spread this information around.

Always remember that Palestine was explicitly granted the right to armed resistance by the United Nations, against the zionist occupation. The article mentions the U.N. enshrining that right for occupied and colonized people, but the U.N. also explicitly named Palestine in the resolution, as well as Namibia and Zimbabwe who were also fighting against apartheid and illegal occupation.

Twitter post from David Wallace Wells, quoting from an article. quote, if we had a trillion humans we would have at any given time a thousand mozarts and a thousand Einsteins. The article is from finance dot yahoo dot com, headline is Jeff bezos Ellen musk say human population not nearly big enough.ALT
Post from Robert Evans responding to the above post. we have many many more than a thousand people with that potential. most of them are starving, lack access to clean water, are stuck at borders staring down the barrel of some gun, or are sheltering in place from a bombardment right nowALT
and many of the "luckier" ones are stuck working in Amazon warehouse or factories in Shenzhen or doing some other kind of hard labor for a pittance just to survive. if billionaires cared about human genius they would support taking care of people.ALT
what Musk and Bezos really want is more people beneath them. An ever widening mountain of the poor who have to pay them fealty. there's nothing else that really matters to either man. they want compulsory praise to fill the empty space inside them.ALT

“I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.”

(Stephen Gould, “The Panda’s Thumb”)

Literally every single human on the face of this entire fucking planet has talent and ingenuity in them, it is absolutely not special or exceptional. The ONLY reason some people never demonstrate any skills or ideas that knock anyone’s socks off is simply that we live in a world with 100 billion different things in it and we only have at most ten measly decades to find what we’re really passionate and good at, with the vast majority of people crushed under the ruthlessness of modern society before they ever have the chance.

ANYONE privileged with the resources, time and motivation can be a “MoZaRt” or whatever the fuck. Yes even Elon Musk might have turned out to be like, I don’t know, an absolutely amazing baker or sculptor if he ever had a reason to give a shit, but instead he’s wasted his life just paying other people to do whatever he thinks will make him look cool. He is what a wasted mind looks like. He could do whatever he wanted with his life and still never tried to figure out an honest creative outlet of his own.

my favorite thing about the mystery genre is that we all accept the concept of “world famous detective” without hesitation even though that is absolutely not a real category of celebrity

Suzanne collins wrote a trilogy where a main media propaganda strategy was to market a horrific act of violence as a love story to distract ppl and then it got adapted into a box office breaking movie and ppl made it all about the love triangle. so then since they didn’t get the point the first time Suzanne collins wrote a prequel story about the main dictator and she makes it so that you as a reader want it to be a genuine love story so badly even tho it’s so very clearly not and instead feels extremely unsettling to make her point even more meta which then gets adapted into another box office breaking film and now ppl are making romantic snowbaird tik toks. do u think she’s gonna write another book that’s somehow even more blatant or just give up and start executing ppl? hard to say but I wouldn’t blame her for the second one

“Back during the pandemic” “when covid was still a thing”

Covid is killing over 1000 Americans each week. Covid is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. Covid is still spreading and mutating. Only 16% of Americans have gotten their boosters in a “vaccine only” strategy to fight the disease (that doesn’t work because vaccinated people can and do catch and spread covid). Covid is still a very real threat to you and those you love. Stop talking about it in the past tense. Stop living a lie. It’s not 2019. You’ll never live in a “post covid” world. Our wishes for “normal” have destroyed any chance of a true end to the pandemic unless we act. Mask up and stop the spread if you really want to past-tense covid.
